I expect from here on out ectos will either remain stable or trend down.
The more new armors are introduced, the less likely that the FoW will be a player's personal favorite. Sure, some will want it only because it is more expensive, but many players prefer the new Factions armors 'cause they're so dang pretty.

true the new armors are pretty and another point comes to mind with fow armor. it's still expensive and hard to craft so but the stats are the same as any other armor in the game so i say either make fow easy to craft and drop the price a bit more or give it some better stats to go with the price tag.

It's mostly because FoW (Obsidian) armor isn't in such high demand as before with all the extra armors available now. Some of the regular armors look better than the fissure armor anyway imo. Additionally, FoW armor is much more common now. I see someone with it everytime I play so it is not so "elite" to have it now as it once was. I don't see ecto going way up in price again unless there's a drastic change like additional FoW armor becoming available.

I haven't been good at guessing when things have bottomed out.
To prove the point, I'll show you my 6k Sup monk runes, 10k Sup absorb rune, 1.7k Jadite and my 15k enchanting axe mod.
If I had half a brain, I'd sell my ecto while I still can.
Seems most things have become so easy to get, there's not much worth actually paying for any more. I was in Kaining Center last night talking with some sellers. We were watching people selling max mods that used to fetch 20k+ for 5k and having trouble.

The Problem is the new Armors... Luxon 15k, Kur 15k, And Cantha 15k. I know that there are some new armors at FOW but how long is it going to before people get there. That should bring the Fissure materials up, but with the new threat of Chapter 3. I dont see anyone putting too much time into FOW armor (or money into it)

anyway, Anet's point is to be against farming and rich people
ex: nerfing the Hod sword and making new crafters that sell everything
look at the runes now ....
Anet wants stuff to be buyable even by noobs with 5k gold
dont be surprised if, at release of C3 u see ecto at 2k and supvigor at 5k
that d suck and the economy is slowly dying since u can get anything easily now. Like i said on another thread, this is the best way to fight against bots and ebay ... just make the gold useless and ppl wont buy it and bots ll stop themselves if the market is gone. if u cant control economy, destroy economy

The only problem I see with that market strategy is that they will probably lose a lot of real players too.
I've been playing GW for about a year and I have 5 characters pretty-much maxed out. There are no weapons I want and only my Rit needs her armor set (15k Luxon) finished. And I wouldn't consider myself rich by a longshot with 60k in the bank and collectors' weapons all around.
Once I finish factions, there won't be much left to do. I can't see myself playing the whole campaign with more than the 2 characters I have near the end as it is. And I don't know how much there will be to do when that's done.
Heh, maybe I finally will have "beat" Guild Wars.

If Anet introduced it to the market as being worth 500g, then it should be sold and bought for around 500g. Not 100k +345 ectos, +4567 shards, +5 black dye, with a j00 f00kn N00b thrown in for free.
Make the merchants always carry the supplies and always at a set price.
If merchant is selling cloth for 8g, but will buy it cloth from you for 5g why the hell are players trying to sell cloth for 15g?
Don't give me your 2 month long, 9th grade economics course speach about supply and demand.

There is no reason to get FoW because the Factions armors look better and so will the next chapters armor. I was planning on buying FoW but changed my mind so I'm only holding 50 ectos and 50 shards...just in case A-net decides to update FoW designs or as I suggested in another post give FoW armor a special emote or something. But as right now, FoW armor is just something that says you spent a lot of money, it isn't even better looking than other armors, which is sad.

well. I purchased my warrior male fow armor some weeks ago...
... and it looks much better than every cantha+tyria 15k armor imho.
But I have to say, there are some female armors which look better than female fow armor (for example 15k cantha).

Now I can buy them at 4-5K each. Which still makes me the very expensive when compared to other rare materials, but at least not at and overkill price.
I for one hope they stay at the price they are now. Sure it unvalues those's who farmed for them. But hey

i rember the 13k price because i was the one selling 20 ectos at one point .
but IMO i think they will gradually go up to 7k because i am still working on getting my first char. (me SS/MM/order i varies to tombs,UW, and PVP). besides i think FoW is a wase of money but still fun to get. IMO

Meh, I don't care anymore. It's not like I have the capital to try and play the stock market :P I had about 60 ecto and 50 shards before factions came out. After I saw the prices drop, instead of selling mine I bought more and made my monk a set of fissure.
What concerns me is the price of sigils. They're at an all-time low now... nobody needs guild halls, it seems. Anet should make a set of armor that's crafted from sigils. That sure would boost up the price <.<

Agreed, the new classes FoW armor is nothing special. Ecto prices will probably stay where they are for awhile since most players who actually can afford FoW armor have it already. And the looks of FoW armor for most classes are far less detailed then the newer factions armor. IMO its just a bigger way to show off how much money you've made.

There fixed it up for you
What I find amuse are those who grind day and night just so they can burn it all on one ugly set of armor. Seriously, nowadays whenever I see a stupid monk standing in town with his accordian collared FoW armor dyed black no less! I simply just laugh as I admire my new cute looking 15K Luxon's set

I got my mesmers set when they were at 16k each, then got my Rits and Eles for 5k each, bit stupid really, id like to see a more fixed value for materials.
I'm thinkin ecto will go up to 8-9k as FoW is still the best stuff and probably will stay that way unless chapter 3 has new FoW forge-type areas.

Never was able to get enough of either ecto or shards to make armor.......and with the new canthan armors, I dont really want to any more....this is probably the feeling of many people, so no demand for ectos then the cost goes down. In comparison look at the price of the monstrous claws...they went from 200 to 1.3k, and why? because the necro armor needs them as well as the ritualist.....now once all these characters move on past getting armors then the prices will drop again (I hope, still need one more claw).
So with the introduction of new armors and new areas, more people are buying different armors and not buying ectos....at least that is my theory for now.

ectos are selling lower than 5k in the rare mat trader the past few days, was able to buy 19pcs. for around 3k.
to further slow down its drop, inform people about FoW/UW being accessible in Zun Ku Corridor that at least will "slow down" if not stop the drop.
and with Amber/Jade "ff" farming made even harder, it will also help somewhat. but in the long run, Amber/Jade, especially Amber, will be the new item-trading replacement for ectos.
